Lecture synopsis

  • Traumatic dental injuries are the most disruptive and distressing emergencies which are presented in the dental practice. Dental trauma has a severe impact on social and psychological well being of a patient. The Dentists are often the first health professional who examines such patients who have sustained significant injuries. Anterior tooth trauma are the second most common body injury in pre-school age children and the sixth most common body injury among 7-30 year olds. The incidence of dental trauma is on the rise due to involvement of children and teenagers in contact sports, automobile accidents, outdoors activities and falls. Management and Restoration of a traumatized tooth are important both aesthetically and functionally. Hence, this paper discusses various types of dental trauma in primary and permanent tooth and their management.
