A Dental practitioner many a times in his practice will encounter patients with swelling of the jaws and of the maxillofacial region. The etiology for these swellings can be varied ranging from a congenital reason to an acquired one. A detailed record of the clinical history and physical manifestations are considered as an important factor in the evaluation and diagnosis of these pathological maxillofacial swellings. The basic aim of this lecture is to make a general dental practitioner aware of these important clinical points while dealing with such patients and helping a practitioner in prompt and early diagnosis of such lesions, thus improving the prognosis of the treatment. An overview about the new emerging imaging modalities with surgical management of such lesions from the author’s vast clinical experience is also discussed here.
